I don't see any reason at all why it allows you to develop counting odds easier - that sounds like clutching at straws to me.
Of course we talk about overall players - we are talking about who makes a better poker player and poker comes in both live AND online varieties, therefore someone who is good at both is a better player than someone who is only good at one.

i think that playing online allows you to develop counting odds? easier than it does live. that was my point. and the idea of being an overal better player is outside the question when comparing between online players and live players - there is no category of overal player because like i say an online player has never a need for reading tells and thus that ability is of no worth in online. if you imagine a venn diagram of abilities between online and live. we evaluate the overlap.

Well that all depends on what kind of poker we are talking about. I was talking in general - I think live players are better at playing live and comparable when it comes to playing online. The fact is that live players are able to learn to calculate odds as well - this is not solely the domain of the online player -? whereas solely online players don't learn to read or hide tells.
Therefore, in general, live players learn more skills and are, overall, better players.

circular reasoning there. practicing reading and hiding tells is only useful in live games not? online so it's not a comparable point whereas the skill of odds calculating that online players have as you say is transferable to live and thus is a comparable point.

im going to agree with static. We eat the online players up because they all bet 2 times the big? blind and dont understand why they get 7 callers, instead of one caller online. then they til big time.

Yea, I understand the rationalization behind drinking till your 21. When they changed the drinking age from 18 to 21 in america, highway deaths increased SIGNIFICANTLY. However, being able to go to war and not being able to play online poker period really really sucks.? It will be back soon i think. I would bet 5k that online poker is back for americans 1 year from today.

those are okay points but if you are not putting in enough hands that becomes less and less valuable when playing an opponent who has tons of experience and the online players will beat the live players everyday in hands won
reading players can be valuable? but if you cant play the game fundamentaly well it means nothing and online players have the real playing ability and as far as hiding tells at ur average game no one is looking at u for tells they are playing their own 2cards

Why live players are superior:
Don't build up a reliance on software
Don't pick up bad habits (every live player I've played against is too loose and bluffs too much)
Get practice reading other players
Get practice hiding own tells
Get used to slower action and? develop patience as a result
Sure, online players see more hands and are probably better with odds and whatnot, but they miss out on half of the whole game.

I feel the same way as you. i used to just play poker 7 days a week at full tilt,while also putting in massive amount's of volume of the tables. Now i? haven't played any poker since June. one thing i have learned by now is i should only be playing poker when i actually feel like playing not playing when im tired of poker and only plays for the money(this made me run very bad). It makes me sad that it shut down at this point in time.but i think it will open soon again for the eu players like me
